St Marys Parish Athenry
- Welcome
It is my privelege with my two colleagues, Fr. John O'Gorman and Fr. Ciaran Blake to welcome you to the website of the parish of Athenry. Our hope is to provide, in as attractive a manner as possible, basic information on a wide range of matters, from a glimpse of the history and features of the parish and the deep roots of spirituality and heritage in this part of east Galway.

Meitheal information provided by the Pastoral Council gives the times of Masses and sacraments with information on clubs, groups and organisations which are serving people in the parish of Athenry. We hope that it will be a link and a bond with people from this area not merely if you live here at home but also with parishioners in different parts of the world.
Wherever you are, we greet you with good wishes and God's blessing in your life and endeavours.

Ladys Well Athenry
The tradition is that Our Lady appeared to a wounded soldier
in this place on August 15th 1249 after the Battle of
Athenry. It is also very likely that the new Priory built
in Athenry by the Dominicans in 1241 promoted the Marian
devotion.
