Athenry Community Childcare

Dear Parent(s),
A local committee has recently been formed to investigate the potential for the provision of a Community Childcare Facility in Athenry town.

A Community Childcare Facility is built by the local community under the control of a local community company and using Government grants.

Funding of up to €1.3 million is available to acquire a site, and build and equip the facility. The funding is to cover all of the project costs and is subject to successful acceptance of a proposal to be submitted to Government by the committee.

Community Childcare Facilities are socially inclusive and typically have 60 to 80 childcare places for similar towns of Athenrys population.

The project usually takes 3 years to complete from start.

We need your help!

The first step towards securing funds is demonstrating a need for a Community Childcare Facility to be built in the town of Athenry. This is done by providing a summary of childcare needs in the proposal. A survey of needs has been included for every household. The information will be treated confidentially and will only ever be published in summary form for the whole community. If your current childcare needs are currently been met, can you please take time to complete the needs assessment based on your potential childcare needs in the next three years.

The Community Childcare Facility will potentially have a fee structure similar to equivalent childcare facilities in the area. The facility will have a long term viability goal while meeting the childcare needs of the local community. The facility will be staffed with a childcare manager and childcare professionals under the management of the local community company. The facility will be socially inclusive and provide for a variety of childcare needs. With a potential €1.3 million to fully complete the facility, childcare fees will cover salaries and overheads going forward to sustain the facility.

How can you help?

a) Complete the forms and return them as soon as possible to the schools
b) Volunteer a small portion of your time towards the committee. The more support the committee has the sooner the project can be completed.

Survey form is below and you can e-mail us your completed form if you prefer at athenrychildcare@gmail.com
